What DC2 unlocks: Rio Evo capabilities and what they mean for your organisation

This article explains the specific Rio Evo capabilities that become available to organisations once they are on DC2, and what each one means in practice.

DC2 and Rio Evo: the connection

Rio Evo is built on DC2. The modern database architecture that DC2 introduces is what connects your organisation's data to the Rio Evo platform and enables the services that run on top of it. Without DC2, Rio Evo cannot operate. With DC2 in place, your organisation has access to the full Rio Evo capability set.

Capabilities unlocked by DC2

Feeds. A real-time data integration layer built into the Rio Evo platform. Feeds enables live data flows between Rio Evo and other clinical or operational systems without requiring bespoke interface development. For NHS organisations managing multiple system integrations, this significantly reduces the cost and complexity of keeping systems connected.

Copilot. An AI-assisted tool embedded directly into the Rio Evo clinical workflow. Copilot helps users navigate the system, surface relevant patient information, and complete tasks more efficiently. It is not a standalone tool: it operates within the clinical context your teams are already working in.

Spaces. Configurable, role-based workspaces within Rio Evo. Spaces gives different user groups: clinical teams, administrative staff, managers, a view of the system tailored to their role and service, without requiring system-wide reconfiguration. This reduces navigation complexity and the time users spend finding what they need.

Single Sign-On. Unified authentication across Access Evo products. Once your organisation is on DC2 and Rio Evo, users authenticate once and move between connected tools without repeated logins.

ISN improvements. Customers on DC2 will benefit from an improved experience for Information Standards Notices, with updates delivered more efficiently into the DC2 environment. Organisations still on previous hosting infrastructure will continue to receive ISNs through the existing process, but will not benefit from these improvements until they are on DC2.

Upgrade readiness

DC2 also changes how Access Health delivers upgrades and releases to your organisation. Customers on DC2 receive updates more efficiently, with reduced operational overhead compared to the previous infrastructure. This is directly relevant to how quickly your organisation can access new Rio Evo features as they are released.

Knowing your position

Your organisation's DC2 status is the single most important factor in determining your Rio Evo readiness. If you are unsure of your current position or what the next steps in your DC2 programme look like, contact your Account Manager.
